Why Give to Alaska Family Action / Council?

We are fighting the battles for Alaska families on important issues including sanctity of life, marriage and family, school choice, and religious liberty.

SANCTITY OF LIFE

  • baby_in_blanket.jpg

We seek to build a culture where every unborn child is welcomed in life and protected by law.

  • We seek an Alaska where abortion is no longer legal or readily available, and where unborn children have the strongest legal protections anywhere in the nation.

HOW WE'RE WORKING TOWARD THIS VISION

  1. Lobbying in Juneau to pass SB49, a bill to stop public funding of elective abortions.
  2. Attempting to end all state funding to Planned Parenthood during the next legislative session.
  3. Asking legislators to sponsor bills that would ban sex-selection abortions, crack down on those coercing women into having abortions and improve the adoption climate in Alaska.

MARRIAGE & FAMILY

  • pretty_wedding.jpgPublic policy in Alaska should value marriage as only the union of one man and one woman and as what’s best for men, women, and children.
  • Public policy in Alaska should protect and respect the right of parents to educate their children regarding issues of sexuality.

HOW WE'RE WORKING TOWARD THIS VISION

  1. Presenting a case to the Legislature in 2014 to defund the offensive "condom education" program sponsored by DHSS.
  2. Seeking to enact Covenant Marriage law in Alaska prior to 2016.
  3. Seeking to enact legislation challenging State Personnel Board’s decision to include unmarried partners of state employees in the definition of “immediate family.”
  4. Resurrecting HB353, a bill sponsored by Rep. Wes Keller that would require internet filters on public library computers to protect children from pornography.

SCHOOL CHOICE

Parents in Alaska should have the right to choose, without financial penalty, the best education for their child, whether in a public school, private school, faith-based school, or homeschooling environment.

HOW WE'RE WORKING TOWARD THIS VISION

Working with Senator Mike Dunleavy and other public officials to pass SJR9, a bill that would place a measure on the ballot in the Fall of 2014 asking Alaskans to amend the State Constitution to allow the use of public money for the benefit of all Alaskans seeking educational/training aid, regardless of whether individuals enroll in public or private institutions.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Public policy in Alaska should affirm and protect religious liberty for individuals, churches, and organizations.

HOW WE'RE WORKING TOWARD THIS VISION

We are currently seeking to find legislators willing to sponsor legislation that will:

  1. Protect the rights of conscience for all holders of occupational or professional licenses.
  2. Pass a state Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
  3. Pass a “Religious Freedom Protection Exemption for Same-Sex Marriage Bill”
  4. Pass law requiring uniformity within Alaska for determining protected classes under anti-discrimination statutes
